The seals have been revealed and God’s judgments on the earth is in. The Clave is here to deliver the news.
LA wasn’t home… just home for now.
Transplanted here to model I learned Hollywood isn’t where dreams survive the harsh reality of millions all sharing that same dream.
Executive assistant is who I am now.
Hollywood’s darling took a liking to me. One not easily ignored when they give you a taste of the high life.
I was supposed to give up hope and give in to LA’s bad reputation but I had rules.
Well, just one: read the rules before you break them.
Unwilling to abandon all my morals, the filter came off my life to see the world I was one foot in was invitation only...
I’m not sure I was ever really Jason.
Whoever he was, was a distant memory now.
Grimm is who I am now.
I abandoned my birth name, companionship, happiness that wasn’t shaped like Xanax all because I was expected to be the kind of elite that pulls the strings.
Pull the strings but follow the rules.
No serious relationships.
Keep what we do secret.
Born into a rite I didn’t ask for, a society of puppeteers.
An invitation I marked not attending...

This is book #1 of The 4Horsemen series and it shouldn’t be read as a standalone.
Contains issues and situations some may find triggering.
Wow! Double, triple wow!!!
Another series of Ms. Monroe that I will be counting the days for the next book to come out.
Twisted, crazy, surreal, but so so good!
I’m a huge fan of dark romance and I’ve loved every book of Ms. Monroe that I have read. But I always like to point it out that dark romance is not for everybody. Most characters have no moral concept, romance comes with pain and love stories are filled with angst.
33/35 STARS – 4.5 STARS (between 31 stars and 33 stars)
Addictiveness: 5 Character: 5 Cover: 5 Freshness: 4.5 Plot: 4 Romance: 4.5 Writing Style: 5
Action 4/5 Angst 5/5 Darkness 5/5 Humor 2/5 Romance 5/5 Suspense/Mystery 3/5
Would I recommend? Yes, for all readers of dark, twisted romance!
Would I re-read this book/series? Yes!
Would I read more from the author? Definitely!!!
Addictiveness: 5/5 I was hooked from the prologue trying to imagine how these two would ever fit. It was filled with twists and turns that kept me on the edge until the end. As addictive as chocolate!!!
Character: hero 5/5, heroine 5/5, secondary characters 5/5, growth 5/5, real 5/5 Multidimensional characters with great background stories and amazing personal growth.
Abigail was a lovable heroine. She was sweet and sour. She had her personal “monsters”, but she hid them well. She had learned how to deal with them. She was a lot more that it seems. She was strong, loyal and curious.
Grimm was adorable. 🙂 In reality he was a minefield: dangerous and problematic. Personally, I love an antihero with psychological problems that learns to live with it, and becomes better from it. Grimm’s journey was never about him becoming something else, but truly accepting himself with all his flaws and learning how to cope with them and thrive even though they existed.
Secondary characters This story was never about lovable sweet characters, but about twisted, dubious, shady characters. Nobody was all good or bad, they all had goodness and flaws. They were all well constructed and interesting to learn.
Villain/antagonists In a book filled with antiheroes and dubious characters, I have to say most characters felt like antagonist for a few chapters. There were a couple of clear villain maybe. Everybody felt pertinent to the plot and subplots of this book.
They were all about tough love, but lovable and somehow connectable!!!
Cover: art 5/5, title 5/5, color-font 5/5, subtitle 5/5, background 5/5 buy 5/5 I’m obsessed with book covers. I love to find snippets of the stories within the art. I always try to be true to myself, I buy so many books because of the cover and I have skipped many because of not very appealing art. Covers are part of the experience for me and I do like to understand them. This one was amazing. Was it beautiful? Not really sure. But it was perfect for the book. It felt like it couldn’t be for any other book. I can see details that were mentioned in the story. I love the power of the title and the twist that the subtitle offered. I would easily buy this book by its cover without needing to read the blurb.
Freshness: 4.5/5 This is crazy, twisted and original. It is another dark romance, but with its own footprints. Felt very fresh! As fresh as mint tea when you are dealing with a bad cold!
Plot: believable 3/5, conflict 5/5, dialogue 5/5, ending 5/5, enjoyment 5/5, opening 5/5, pace 5/5, setting 5/5, subplots 4/5, twists 5/5 Amazing opening with an incredible ending. Superb plot, with well written dialogues and intense pace. Great setting, a few good subplots with unexpected twists. High level of enjoyment!
Like most series, there are a few holes in the plot. Not because it was badly written, but because this was the first book of a series. I can’t wait to fit all the pieces of this puzzle.
Romance: 4.5/5 It was hot!!! Romantic? As romantic as dark romance can be, that is with a dash of fear, sprinkles of pain and loads of angst. This of course is a great recipe for HOT SMUT. Twisted romance!!!
Writing Style: 5/5 What is not to like? Problematic characters, painful love, twisted romance, creative plot, all in a clean, cohesive writing style. Work of a wordsmith!!!
Because I try to be very analytical and I don’t really believe in perfection…
I have ended the story with a lot of what ifs and what will happen next. Looking forward to see where this will go.
We were all related to monsters.
All heir to corrupt kingdoms.
Forced to uphold some delusion that we are doing God’s will by ridding the world of the bad people when we should be included in that kind of purge.
“It’s down to the right. There’s a bunker. That’s where they keep the sacrifices,” I was finally tired of wondering around when I knew exactly where to go.
I found them by mistake one year when I was ten, back when inviting your whole family was more common. They expected everyone to be present even if you weren’t weilding a musket and shooting real people down.
The four of us used to play hide and seek on the grounds just to keep ourselves entertained. I always had the best hiding places, this was our vacation home when it wasn’t being used for some ceremony the Clave hosted.
I was ten years old when I found people in cages in the bunker we were told to stay away from. They were all dugged, out of it like they were dreaming with their eyes open. I envied them. Dreaming with your eyes wide open seemed like the perfect antidote to life, too bad that kind of safety only came before you died.
It wasn’t until my first attendance I realized these people weren’t lucky at all. They were bait, aggression running wild, enemies of the Clave that we hunted for sport.
None of them were going to survive – the least we could do was let them dream with their eyes wide open.
