As a wedding photographer, it’s no surprise that Ashley Murphy, despite her perpetual singleness, is a little in love with love.
When she catches a hunky best man checking her out while on the job, her heart all but shouts, “He’s the one”. Until he opens his mouth. Colton Banks is a cocky lawyer with a mean streak a country mile wide.
Colton prefers order to chaos. He believes there’s a time and place for everything, so when a lilac haired hottie sends him a flirtatious wink while she’s on the job, he’s less than impressed.
When she shows up at his office a week later asking for legal help, his first instinct is to send her packing. But day after day, she returns, finding new elaborate ways to break him down.
It’s not until a life-altering surprise shows up on Colton’s doorstep that things start to change. Ironically, the answer to his problem may be his incredibly annoying, free-spirited new “friend.”
Complications. Lust. Attraction. Love.
As their tenuous friendship grows, the chemistry between them becomes a raging inferno, and everyone knows you can’t deny your rebel desires.
Adult, Contemporary, Romantic Comedy, Single Parent, Enemies-to-Lovers
First Person, Dual-POV
This is the book #3 of the Rebel Love series. There are interconnected characters , but this story can be read as a stand-alone. The story arch of the main. couple has a begging and a satisfactory ending. I haven’t read the first two books of the series, and I never felt lost or missing any information.
Why would fate assign me such a monumental jackass as my soulmate? Clearly the universe has a sick sense of humor.
I really enjoyed this book! It was fun, sweet with a dash of spice. It had all elements for a feel good book.
This was my first book by this author and I’ve been pleasantly surprise. Really great writing style with good plot and pace.
Family romance with a bit of smut!
31/35 STARS – 4 STARS (between 28 stars and 31 stars)
Addictiveness: 5 Character: 5 Cover: 4 Freshness: 4 Plot: 4 Romance: 5 Writing Style: 4
Action 3/5 Angst 1/5 Darkness 0/5 Humor 5/5 Romance 5/5 Suspense/Mystery 1/5
Would I recommend? Yes, for anyone that enjoys a fun romance with a bit of smut.
Would I re-read this book/series? Yes!
Would I read more from the author? I’m looking forward to reading more from her.
Addictiveness: 5/5 This was a very easy read. It was a fast paced, cohesive, fun story that had me finishing it in one sitting. As addictive as chocolate!!!
Character: hero 4.5/5, heroine 5/5, secondary characters 5/5, growth 5/5, real 4.5/5 Complex characters with good background information and cohesive story arch.
Ashley was wonderful! She was fun and quirky. She offered me a lot of LOL moments. She was also sweet, happy, kind and lovely. She embraced Colton’s bundle of surprise so well and she really made others around her happier.
Colton was a good hero. Yes, he was pompous and self-absorbed but he evolved a lot during the story. He took the surprises of life well and turned it all around very nice. He was also very hot!!!
Secondary characters I loved them all. I love the friends and would like to read theirs books. Cruz was also very special and I adored Colton’s moms.
Villain/antagonists … not huge villains, a couple of antagonists, but never really a major one.
They are all so easy to love, connect and understand!!!
Cover: art 4/5, title 5/5, color-font 5/5, buy 5/5 I’m obsessed with book covers. I love to find snippets of the stories within the art. I liked this one. I love that I can see Ashley, but I don’t love Colton’s representation. I don’t know, I think the guy should be wearing the suit, to play better with their contrasts. I also would love a subtitle, something that offered more of the story, maybe enticing the reader. I would probably buy this book by its cover without needing to read the blurb, mostly because I really liked the title!
Freshness: 4/5 This is a romantic comedy from the first word until the end. The story is funny, has sexual chemistry flying around, a dash of friends and family. It is a feel-good book, it didn’t gave me any wow moments of surprise, but it is well written that feels original. As fresh as mint mentos!!!!
Plot: believable 4.5/5, conflict 3/5, dialogue 5/5, ending 5/5, enjoyment 5/5, opening 5/5, pace 5/5, setting 5/5, subplots 5/5, twists 4/5 Great opening and cute ending. Believable plot, with hot dialogues and great pace. Lovable setting, interesting subplots with not many twists. Good level of enjoyment!
The plot is solid. It has amazing characters, in a great setting with a strong storyline. It only lacked a bit more drama, maybe a bigger conflict.
Romance: believable 5/5, chemistry 5/5, description 5/5, development 5/5, steam 4/5 Yes! I loved it. The couple had a lot of chemistry, there is nothing like a game of love/hate to spice up a relationship. There were some fun, hot dialogues and a couple very good descriptive smut. That man was hot and that girl was dirty. Fun, sexy romance!
Writing Style: 4/5 My first time reading the author and I was very impressed. Strong plot that hooked me from the first page, charismatic, multidimensional characters and sexy romance. Everything in cohesively written with a very clean style without typo mistakes. Great writing!!!
God knows, the woman needs a warning label: Hot as hell; prolonged exposure may lead to distracting thoughts, an abundance of lust, and a deep-seated desire for commitment. Proceed with caution.
Because I try to be very analytical and I don’t really believe in perfection…
I missed a bigger conflict! Everything that was thrown into the story was solved really fast and easy.
“Hello, this is Ashley.”
“Am I supposed to find your antics clever?” A growly yet refined voice barks in my ear. Colton.
“Actually, you’re supposed to say ‘thank you.’ Or are you one of those men who feels emasculated by receiving flowers?”
“No, I’m the kind of man who isn’t swayed by paltry attempts at bribery.”
Why would fate assign me such a monumental jackass as my soulmate? Clearly the universe has a sick sense of humor. “Good thing I’m not trying to bribe you, then,” I say, lying through my teeth.
“Aren’t you, though? Muffins, flowers, what’s next? Maybe a box of chocolates? Half of your peanut butter sandwich? I’m not your grade school crush. I’m a professional, Miss Murphy, and only work with other professionals, which you have demonstrated time and time again, you are not.”
I tap the speaker button on my phone and toss it down on my desk. This man makes me insane. “You are truly the most condescending man I’ve ever met. You don’t know me well enough to have formed these kinds of opinions about me.”
In all honesty, his extreme dislike of me hurts. A lot. Especially with how my heart and soul long for his. He means for his words to dissuade me—to break me—but every single insult and rebuff only makes me want to prove him wrong that much more.
“They say the truth hurts, Miss Murphy. It’s not my fault you’re ill-equipped to handle the pain.”
I clench my fists so tightly my nails dig into my palms, leaving behind little crescent-shaped marks. This man makes me want to commit felonies—you know, like murder. I wonder, since he’s my soulmate, could it be classed as a crime of passion? “I can handle everything you dish out and more.”
Colton makes a noise low in his throat, and I can nearly picture the sneer on his face. “Is that a threat?”
“It’s a promise, Mr. Banks. Do your worst; I’ll not only take it—I’ll return it back tenfold.”
“You don’t have it in you.” He laughs cruelly, the dark tenor of it winding around my heart in inky swirls.
“I’m far stronger than you give credit for.” Not to mention, my plan of attack is to repay his barbs with kindness. Something tells me that will knock him off guard far more than volleying back with harsh words or petty.
“You mistake strength for stupidity.”
“And you underestimate me.” I end the call before he can reply, crumpling down to my desk chair with my heart thundering and my pulse racing.
I’ll show that sexy, arrogant jackass exactly who he’s up against. I may be quirky and kind, but those two qualities are exactly what give me an edge. Colton Banks is used to sharks and snakes, but he’s about to be brought to his knees by a creature far more deadly—a woman scorned.
