They call me America’s Sweetheart.
Hollywood royalty. The last of an era.
Sole survivor of LA’s most infamous crime.
I’m not any of those things.
He forced me into the spotlight.
The liar with a perfect smile and cold blue eyes.
But Alexandra Romanov’s fate won’t be mine.
I’ll speak her lines. I’ll hit the mark. I’ll strike a pose.
And when the past and present collide, I’ll become their worst nightmare.
They told me to preserve the legacy.
Be careful what you ask for. . .
You just might get it.
Author note: This book contains dark themes, graphic and violent content, and sensitive subject matter that while essential to the storyline may make some readers uncomfortable.

This is a stand-alone book, a kind of retelling of Anastasia.
As much as people like to think they’re unique, when it all boils down to it, we’re all just Xerox copies of the same original. Some of us are more complex full color prints, while others remain basic black and whites, but underneath the ink, we’re all just paper.
Warning: This is not a read for every one, there are dark situations that may be a trigger for some.
Wow! I’m not sure what I was expecting, but this has jumped beyond anything I could have imagined.
This was a gut-wrenching, suspenseful, psychological thriller that had me on the edge of my seat!
To call this book an Anastasia retelling is too simple to the scope this story reaches.
I would like to mention that Dominic had so many amazing lines, I believe I have highlighted 1 third of the things he said!
31.5/35 STARS – 4.5 STARS (between 31.5 stars and 33 stars)
Addictiveness: 4.5 Character: 4 Cover: 5 Freshness: 5 Plot: 4 Romance: 4.5 Writing Style: 4.5
Action 3/5 Angst 4/5 Darkness 4/5 Humor 0/5 Romance 5/5 Suspense/Mystery 4/5
Would I recommend? Yes, for anyone that enjoys saga-like romance.
Would I re-read this book/series? Yes!
Would I read more from the author?I’m looking forward.
Addictiveness: 4.5/5 This story had so many turns and twists that kept me guessing until the end. A few times I had problem with the pace because it jumped a lot from one time to other, but it really hooked me from the beginning. As addictive as ice cream!!!
Character: hero 4/5, heroine 4/5, secondary characters 4/5, growth 5/5, real 4/5 Complex characters with great story arch, only a bit confusing at times.
Alexandra was a great heroine. She had been dealt blow after blow since a little kid, but she found ways to cope with it. She kept on fighting and founding ways to reinvent herself. Her character went through a huge growth during the story and her story arch was really rich and filled with depth.
Dominic was a jerk. Yes, I seem to like them. 🙂 He was very intense and dark, and sometimes I felt like he was too selfish, but he redeemed himself in the end. Not the type of character that anyone will like, but very hot and alpha. The tall, dark and dangerous type!!!
Secondary characters They were all multidimensional and amazing. So many characters to mention, some I loved, some I hated to love, but they all felt very important and pertinent to the story.
Villain/antagonists There was a clear villain and a few debatable antagonists. They were well written and had depth.
They were all multifaceted, not easy to understand, but easy to love and connect!
Cover: art 5/5, title 5/5, color-font 5/5, buy 5/5 I’m obsessed with book covers. I love to find snippets of the stories within the art. This is the perfect example of a wonderful cover. It felt like the art was created by this story alone, making it unique. It is totally unassuming by being completely different than most covers that are out there. Not only the title is great, but the subtitle enhance the reader’s experience. I would definitely buy this book by its cover without needing to read the blurb!!!
Freshness: 5/5 Yes!!! Unique, one-of-a-kind!!! Is not often contemporary stories feel like an out-of-this-world experience and something I have never read before. This was one of this rare stories. As fresh as water in the middle of the desert during summer!
Plot: believable 4/5, conflict 4/5, dialogue 5/5, ending 5/5, enjoyment 5/5, opening 4/5, pace 4/5, setting 5/5, subplots 5/5, twists 5/5 Good opening with cute ending. Believable plot, with amazing dialogues and ok pace. Lovable setting, interesting subplots with unexpected twists. High level of enjoyment!
This plot was suspenseful, unexpected and convoluted. It had intensity and lots of twists and turns. I never felt sure of what was coming next. I felt that I was kept on my toes throughout this emotional rollercoaster.
Romance: believable 4/5, chemistry 5/5, description 5/5, development 4/5, steam 4/5 This was intense! The couple was like fire and gasoline… if they got close enough explosions would happen. They played a bit of love/hate game with some heavy, sexy smut. Their love was the obsessive type and they were always either fighting or doing it. Mania love!!!
Writing Style: 4.5/5 Multidimensional characters, complex plot, intense romance with a one-of-a-king story. Clean, cohesive writing. Great crafter of words!!!
Because I try to be very analytical and I don’t really believe in perfection…
I’m easily hooked by a psychological story. The psychologist in me can’t get enough of complicated characters. Maybe because of that, I’ve missed a better explanation of Alexandra’s psychological problem. I don’t want to complicate the story even more, but it could and should have been given a better background for it. It is more common than most people know a person with trauma during childhood to create coping mechanisms to deal with it. There is also a scientific term and medical diagnosis for cases like this.
“Angel, I’m…” The word sorry is right there on my lips, but instead of saying it, I slam them against hers before either of us can react. Angel’s muffled protest is trapped between our mouths, and her palms fly to my chest as if to push me away. Only she doesn’t. Her fingers curl into my shirt, those sharp nails digging into my skin.
My control breaks. My hand dives into her hair, twisting it around my fingers. We kiss harder, ignoring the fact we’re in a public parking lot. And when she moans into my mouth, I lose it and push her against the car.
“Stop.” Angel breaks the kiss, her chest rising and falling with labored breaths as she pulls away. Her fingers press against her swollen lips as if they will somehow erase the feel of mine.
Because like it or not, when I want something, I get it. I wanted out of this mess, so I made her an offer that would make history.
We’re going to rewrite it.
However, Angel has to be handled carefully, so I play the apologetic asshole role with gusto. Stepping back, I rake a hand through my hair. “That was out of line.”
She crosses her arms over her chest. “You think?”
Sighing, I press my thumb against my temple and throw out a final Hail Mary. “Look, what do you have to lose? A crappy apartment and a worthless job?”
For some reason, that seems to get to her, and she relaxes the grip her arms have on her chest. “What’s in it for you? And be straight with me this time. No more of this half-answer crap. I want the truth.”
Angel raises her eyebrows and glares at me.
I roll my eyes. “And money. Look, I don’t care how much a man has, five-hundred-k is five-hundred-k.” It’s the truth, something I didn’t mean to throw out there, but my master plan is going down in flames pretty fast.
“That’s another half-answer,” she accuses, and then twists around to walk away, but I catch her arm and spin her back around.
“Fine, you want the truth? You don’t get to where I am in life and not step on a lot of toes along the way, sweetheart. Some were by accident, and others were very much on purpose. Somebody didn’t like what he saw in the mirror I shoved in front of his face and decided to take it out on my ass. If I don’t get some cash flow soon, I’m going to lose everything.”
An awkward second of silence quickly turns into five. Then ten. Just as I’m about to do something drastic like speak the name of a man who should never be used as a bargaining tool, she sighs.
“I know I’ll live to regret this, but I can’t argue that half a million would change my life.”
“So, that’s a yes?” I ask, slowly. “You’ll do it?”
“Yes. Provided you guarantee the DNA test will prove I’m Alexandra Romanov, you’ve got a deal.”
