Rule No. 1: Don’t piss off the Sick Boys

They’re cruel. Reckless. Impossibly fucked up.

The Sick Boys feed on the order they create. They rule Eastpoint University just as their families have for decades. But their power doesn’t stop there. The three of them are heirs to some of the largest fortunes in the world, and behind that kind of wealth lies an underworld of corruption.

On the surface, they’re perfect princes and he is their King. But underneath it all, they’re filled with blood, lies, and secrets. With all of their connections, they have the power to crush anyone who gets in their way. But just because they’re as warped as I am doesn’t mean I’m going to give them a free pass.

Because I, Avalon Manning, bow to no one, and I live to break the fucking rules.

***This is a Dark MF Enemies to Lovers College Romance.***

Series Rating: five-stars

New Adult, College, Contemporary, Dark Romance, Enemies-to-Lovers

First Person, Dual-POV

This is book #1 of the Sick Boys series and it does end in a major cliffhanger!!!

Contains issues and situations some may find triggering.

Wow! My first read by the author and I’m in love!!! I can’t believe this book. It was AMAZING! I really hope book #2 is coming really soon. I’m still in shock with that ending!!!

I finished reading this book about three days ago, but I needed time to let it all sink in so I could write a deserving review.

I fell in love with the characters, and even though usually I’m a huge antiheroes fan, I love myself a redeemable jerk, Avalon Manning was truly my obsession here. Oh, the 3 boys, were wonderful, great antiheroes, but Avalon outshined everyone. What an amazing kick-ass heroine!!!

33.5/35 STARS –  5 STARS (between 33.5 stars and 35 stars)

Addictiveness: 5 Character: 5 Cover: 5 Freshness: 4 Plot: 4.5 Romance: 5 Writing Style: 5

Action 5/5 Angst 5/5 Darkness 5/5 Humor 0/5 Romance 5/5 Suspense/Mystery 4/5

Would I recommend? Yes, for all readers of dark, twisted romance!

Would I re-read this book/series? Yes!

Would I read more from the author? Definitely!!!

Addictiveness: 5/5 That prologue was everything and I was hooked. The story kept me on the edge of my seat and that ending still has me reeling four days later. As addictive as chocolate!!!

Character: hero 5/5, heroine 5/5, secondary characters 5/5, growth 5/5, real 5/5 Multidimensional characters with wonderful background stories and great personal growth during the book.

Avalon my #1 heroine of 2020. What an amazing female character. To read a story with such a strong heroine, that even in the midst of three alpha males, felt like the true alpha, yeah that was special. Ava was tough, raw, a little too crazy, a cactus, that survived alone in the middle of chaos. She was too stuborn, to used to be alone and to not be able to trust anyone. She was very prickly but it all made sense to her journey. Can’t wait to see her bloom in the next book.

Dean was a true alpha antihero. He was a jerk. A beautiful jerk raised to become a psycho, and ready to lead. He felt mysterious, we still didn’t see so much of his background, but what I’ve seen I’ve liked. Even though he was a true alpha, he recognized in Avalon something special. I would love to learn more about him in the next book.

Abel was neither the main character, but nor a secondary character. He was part of the trinity with Braxton and Dean and they felt like a unit. Talk about one, without mentioned the other felt wrong. Abel was fun of the trinity. He was sort of the light, of the trio, even though there were a lot of darkness in him and his past. I can’t wait to see him grow in the series.

Braxton was my favorite. He was completely deranged, but I could see the vulnerability under all that attitude. He resembled Avalon and the psychologist in me loves to understand insanity. Can’t wait to see more of him!

Secondary characters besides the quartet we still had a few important secondary characters that I can see growing more in the series like Rylie and Corine.

Villain/antagonists In a story that the main characters are all antiheroes, there are antagonists everywhere. Real villains… probably the dads, and a couple that are still not clear, but felt like evil.

They were all easy (ok, maybe not that easy) to love, to connect and understand!!!

Cover: art 5/5, title 5/5, color-font 5/5, subtitle 5/5, background 5/5 buy 5/5  I’m obsessed with book covers. I love to find snippets of the stories within the art. I always try to be true to myself, I buy so many books because of the cover and I have skipped many because of not very appealing art. Covers are part of the experience for me and I do like to understand them. This one was wonderful!!! Yes, there is a naked guy on the cover, but there is a lot more. The tattoo details seemed like the ones described on Dean, the title is a wonderful description of Avalon, the subtitle add a hint of the story to come and the colors used with title and background worked magically. I would definitely buy this book by its cover without needing to read the blurb!

Brax throws his head back and laughs. “You’re right,”he agrees. “That’s what you are. A pretty little savage.”

Plot: believable 4/5, conflict 5/5, dialogue 5/5, ending 5/5, enjoyment 5/5, opening 5/5, pace 5/5, setting 5/5, subplots 5/5, twists 5/5  Amazing opening with an INCREDIBLE ending even though a huge cliffhanger. Superb plot, with well written dialogues and intense pace. Great setting, a few really good subplots with unexpected twists. Highest level of enjoyment!

Plot filled with darkness, angst and suspense. The author touches several deep topics, but it all felt relevant to the story.

Romance: believable 5/5, chemistry 5/5, description 5/5, development 5/5, steam 4.5/5  Some would say not very romantic :). Really a game of love/hate. It was intense, always combustible when those two got together. I could feel their chemistry through the pages and each scene together was better than the other. The smut was great with a lot of panty-wetter moment. Violent romance!!

Writing Style: 5/5 I’ve became a fan. Intricate plot, wonderful characters, explosive romance, hot smut, all in a cohesive, clean writing. Work of a wordsmith!!!

Because I try to be very analytical and I don’t really believe in perfection…

Freshness: 4/5 That was nothing extremely original here. It has all the usual clichés of a dark, college, romance. But I truly enjoy all of them, so this totally worked for me. As fresh as iced tea in a summer morning.

I understand the reason for cliffhangers, but I don’t like them. They frustrate me. 🙂 So, I only hope the author doesn’t make me wait for too long. Can’t wait to the book 2!!!!

You MAY read this because you follow the author; you SHOULD read this because you like dark romance; you MUST read this because the heroine is UNFORGETTABLE!!!

Red colors the corners of my vision. Even sitting alone in his giant fucking houses with wounds all over my body from nightly ‘training’ sessions. Even after I’d killed my first traitor. Even through the worst of my adolescence and childhood, I’d never felt this angry. And before I can stop to think or ask myself why it’s like this with her it’s already too late.

More broken glass crunches under my shoes as I snatch her up and slam her back into another wall, shoving my body against her, letting one of my legs between her thighs. “You do belong to me,” I tell her in the coldest of tones. “I can do whatever I want with you and there’s nothing you can do to stop me. You’re not going to run away. I’m not going to let you run back to him—he only wants to fuck whores anyway … or wait, is that what you want? You want me to fuck you like a whore? I thought I pleased you enough already, but if that’s what you want baby…” I move back, dropping her back to the floor so that I can see her reaction.

Big fucking mistake. Avalon shoots away from me and when I move to follow her she turns back around and punches me in the nose. “Shit!” I stumble back as blood pours down over my upper lip, but she’s not done yet. Oh no, not my girl. She rears back and delivers what I might’ve called the perfect full frontal kick if it hadn’t been aimed directly for my balls.

I go down in a heap, wheezing as pain ricochets through me. The glass on the floor cuts through my fucking jeans and I can feel the stings of each wound. None are greater, though, than the thought that I’ve been well, and truly fucking fucked by her.

A small feminine hand sifts through my hair, yanking my head back as I try to catch my breath and keep from throwing up. Her other hand grabs my throat as she leans down and hisses in my ear—and even through the agony in my body and the fury I’m feeling, I can’t help but find her fucking magnificent in her own wrathful animosity.

“I am not any man’s property, Dean. Least of all yours.”

I cough and glare up at her. “You think not?” I ask. I try shaking my head, but it’s difficult with her nails scratching my scalp, holding me there. To think, just hours ago, those nails had been in different places and for much different reasons. “That’s all your pussy’s ever meant to be, baby,” I spit out. “Property. And I think that’s what kills you inside. So, regardless of how I might look to you now, Ava. I win and I will always win. You fucked with the wrong man.”

She laughs. An honest to God, fucking laugh. “You think you’ve won? Oh no, Dean.” She shakes her head. “You didn’t win. You opened Pandora’s box, and my demons are coming for you.”
