High Court College isn't for everyone. And the secret society that meets deep in the woods is even more exclusive. Only a select few will get in during the summer rush--and Cadee Hunter wants to be one of them. Too bad it's Cooper Valcourt's mission to make sure she fails.
Call them whatever you want.
Around here, we just call them Kings.
Luxe watches and bespoke suits.
The Kings of High Court College act like Gods.
And Cooper Valcourt is the worst of them.
He is the bully king.
His family owns everything.
And his mission is to put me in my place and send me packing.
But Cooper and I have a history filled with secrets.
And everyone knows that power doesn’t come from having money.
It comes from holding secrets.
And I’m holding one of his.
A very dark secret that can bring him to his knees.
Bully King is a new-adult, dark, bully romance from New York Times bestselling author JA Huss featuring boys with power and girls at their mercy. It’s a campus shrouded in lies and a summer rush into an elite society that can propel a poor girl straight into the ruling class.

New Adult, Bully, Dark Romance
First Person, Dual-POV
This is book #1 of the Kings of High Court College, and it shouldn’t be read as standalone. Even though it doesn’t end in a cliffhanger, it left many questions unanswered.
Contains issues and situations some may find triggering.
Great reading, can’t wait for more!
J.A. Huss has finally arrived at the bully romance and it fit her writing style perfectly. She has always written the best antiheroes and Cooper was another one. 🙂 In fact, the boys are all jerks and I look forward to see more of them.
I have to say, this book was a bit long because it had a lot of back story to cover. It also had less romance than what I would imagine. But the heat was there, when the main couple saw each other.
31.5/35 STARS – 4.5 STARS (between 31.5 stars and 33 stars)
Addictiveness: 5 Character: 4.5 Cover: 4.5 Freshness: 4.5 Plot: 4.5 Romance: 3.5 Writing Style: 5
Action 3/5 Angst 5/5 Darkness 5/5 Humor 1/5 Romance 4/5 Suspense/Mystery 4/5
Would I recommend? Yes, for all readers of dark, twisted romance!
Would I re-read this book/series? Yes!
Would I read more from the author? Definitely!!!
Addictiveness: 5/5 This was a pretty long book and I didn’t even feel the time passing. There were so many twists and turn, that every time I believed I knew something, it would showed me differently. As addictive as chocolate!!!
Character: hero 4/5, heroine 5/5, secondary characters 5/5, growth 5/5, real 5/5 Multifaceted characters with amazing background stories and great personal growth in the book.
Cadee was a kick-ass heroine. She was from a totally different life, but she never bowed down to them. She gave everything she got and she made them sweat. I think she was too good for Cooper.
Cooper was a good antihero. I had a love/hate relationship with him. He was a jerk, there is no other way to call him. But more than that, he was still a jerk by the end of the book. 🙂 He was always making the worst choices and even though the author kept throwing curve balls, I still think he made bad choices. He was hot!
Secondary characters In a sea of piranhas, there was no clown fish. They were all bad, but some were easy to love and connect. Ax was definitely my favorite.
Villain/antagonists In a book filled with antiheroes and dubious characters, I have to say most characters felt like antagonist for a few chapters. I guess there was one that stood out as a villain, but with some many secrets, we only figure it out at the end.
They were all about tough love, but lovable and somehow connectable!!!
Cover: art 4/5, title 5/5, color-font 5/5, subtitle 5/5, background 5/5 buy 5/5 I’m obsessed with book covers. I love to find snippets of the stories within the art. I always try to be true to myself, I buy so many books because of the cover and I have skipped many because of not very appealing art. Covers are part of the experience for me and I do like to understand them. This one was a great one! I loved the title and subtitles, they add to the hype of the story. The art work fits the story. I loved the plaid pants. 🙂 I would buy this book by its cover without needing to read the blurb.
Freshness: 4.5/5 Ms. Huss did it. She made bully romance seems fresh. It was a bit different from most out there. They way that everything kept switching, the archaic idea of boys and girls. It felt original. One-of-a-kind! As fresh as mint tea when you are dealing with a bad cold!
Plot: believable 3/5, conflict 5/5, dialogue 5/5, ending 4.5/5, enjoyment 5/5, opening 5/5, pace 5/5, setting 5/5, subplots 4.5/5, twists 5/5 Amazing opening with an incredible ending. Superb plot, with well written dialogues and intense pace. Great setting, a few really good subplots with unexpected twists. High level of enjoyment!
Can we talk about the mystery, suspense and all the twists? I mean, it was curve ball after curve ball. I was never able to settle comfortably in my seat. Every time the direction of the story would change and I would be trying to understand it all. So so so good!
Writing Style: 5/5 Original plot concept, well constructed characters, unexpected twists, clean and cohesive writing. Great dialogues and steamy smut. Work of a wordsmith !!!
Because I try to be very analytical and I don’t really believe in perfection…
Romance: believable 4/5, chemistry 4/5, description 5/5, development 2.5/5, steam 4/5
I don’t know if it was because I have read too many books by the author, or maybe because I’ve been reading too many bully romance, but I missed something here. I missed more steamy scenes. Yeah, I missed smut.
Yeah, I read all sort of romance, I read YA, sweet and cute, but when I see dark and J.A. Huss, I imagined raw and dirtier than it was.
I liked that, but I don’t remember one particular scene that stuck on my brain.
