Desperation had a flavor.
It was all Emma could taste as her life in Washington DC started to crumble before her.
In a city filled with prestige and American dreams also lay political fallacy and corruption—corruption she would soon find herself indulging in.
Emma would have done anything to save herself from the downfall, gone to any length, sacrificed her soul if needed.
What she didn’t realize was that someone else was more desperate to save their own life and that the worst was yet to come.
Thriller, Romantic Suspense
First Person, Dual-POV (there is one chapter in a third voice)
This book is a standalone.
This has been a completely MINDSCREW !!!
I think I’ve finished this book a week ago and I still don’t know how to explain any of it.
I don’t know what I was expecting, but nothing came closer to the truth.
This is a thriller, that scrambles the brain and keep you guessing and changing opinions each and every chapter.
I have no idea how to write my review, I can’t really fit this story into my list of topics to review. Completely out-of-the-box!!!!
My first time reading the author and I have been completely blown away!
This book is unexplainable. You have to read it to comprehend it!
30/35 STARS – 4 STARS (between 28 stars and 31 stars)
Addictiveness: 4 Character: 4 Cover: 5 Freshness: 5 Plot: 4.5 Romance: 2.5 Writing Style: 5
Action 2/5 Angst 4/5 Darkness 4/5 Humor 0/5 Romance 2/5 Suspense/Mystery 5/5
Would I recommend? Yes, for everyone that enjoys a suspenseful thriller.
Would I re-read this book/series? I don’t think so.
Would I read more from the author? Definitely!!!
Addictiveness: 4/5 As fast-paced and suspenseful this was, because it jumped it a lot. I had to take a break and finished in two sittings, instead of one. As addictive as pizza!!!
Character: hero 45, heroine 4/5, secondary characters 4/5, growth 4/5, real 4/5 Very complex characters with good background stories.
These characters were so complex that I can’t define who was the main character, who was the good guy and who was the bad guy. They were all a bit bad and good, like most people really.
There were no villains, because there were no heroes. They were all a bit lost inside the maze they had created.
They were all multidimensional, but not easy at all. I had a hard time connecting with them.
Cover: art 5/5, title 5/5, color-font 5/5, subtitle 3/5, background 5/5 buy 5/5 I’m obsessed with book covers. I love to find snippets of the stories within the art. I always try to be true to myself, I buy so many books because of the cover and I have skipped many because of not very appealing art. Covers are part of the experience for me and I do like to understand them. This book cover is a story on its own. It is so unusual, with a catchy title and memorable art. I would easily buy this book by its cover without reading the blurb!
Freshness: 5/5 ONE-OF-A-KIND! As fresh as water during summer in the middle of the desert!!!
Plot: believable 4/5, conflict 5/5, dialogue 5/5, ending 5/5, enjoyment 4/5, opening 4/5, pace 5/5, setting 4/5, subplots 5/5, twists 5/5 Good opening with unbelievable ending. Crazy plot, with great dialogues and amazing pace. Nice setting, great subplots with unexpected twists. Great level of enjoyment!
This plot twisted my mind and turned it into jello. The one certainty that I ended, was that I didn’t know anything. Every time I believed I knew what was happening, it would go in a totally different direction.
Writing Style: 5/5 Ms. Blair knows her craft. Well constructed characters with creative plot, great dialogues and wonderful pace. Everything in a cohesive, clean writing. Work of a wordsmith!!!
Because I try to be very analytical and I don’t really believe in perfection…
Romance: 2.5/5 I wouldn’t call this a romance. It has romantic situations, but was this a romance? I think this was a thriller that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat wanting to know more. Didn’t feel very romantic. I believed there was love, but mostly obsession.
