Arianna Capizola is her father’s daughter.
Humble. Hardworking. Honest.
She’d rather spend her days helping at the local shelter than brushing shoulders with her vain and entitled classmates.
Niccolò Marchetti is his father’s son.
Dark. Dangerous. Deceitful.
He’d rather spend his days getting bloody in the ring than attending class and keeping up pretences.
When their paths cross at Montague University neither of them are willing to drop the walls they’ve spent so long building. But he can’t resist the girl with stars in her eyes, and she can’t forget the guy who saved her that night.
There’s only one catch.
Nicco isn’t Arianne’s knight-in-shining armor, he’s the son of her father’s greatest enemy.
He is the enemy.
And their families are at war.
**Prince of Hearts is the first book in Nicco and Ari’s duet. Due to mature content that some readers may find distressing, this book is recommended for readers 18+
New Adult Romantic Suspense, Mafia
First Person, Dual-POV
This is book #1 of the Verona Legacy series and book #1 of Nico and Ari’s duet.
But I wasn’t a good man. I was Niccolò Marchetti, son of the devil, prince of hell.
This was a contemporary Romeo and Juliet story within the mafia trope.
I’m really exciting for this new series and this new-to-me author. I read tons of mafia romance, but this one felt unique.
I loved how the main characters are still teenagers/new adults really. Most mafia books out there are about the big boss and not the next generation.
I could see lots of characters with potential to have their own book. I look forward to read their stories.
I can’t wait to read the second and final book of the duet!
Family saga romance!!!
33/35 STARS – 4.5 STARS (between 31.5 stars and 33 stars)
Addictiveness: 5 Character: 5 Cover: 4 Freshness: 4.5 Plot: 4.5 Romance: 5 Writing Style: 5
Action 4/5 Angst 4/5 Darkness 2/5 Humor 0/5 Romance 5/5 Suspense/Mystery 4/5
Would I recommend? Yes, for anyone that likes mafia romance!!!
Would I re-read this book/series? Yes!
Would I read more from the author? I’m looking forward to reading more from her.
Addictiveness: 5/5 This book held me hostage from the first page and I couldn’t let go. In fact, I’m still sort of hooked, impatiently waiting for the second book. As addictive as chocolate!!!
Character: hero 5/5, heroine 5/5, secondary characters 5/5, growth 5/5, real 5/5 Multidimensional characters with several layers that were exposed slowly by the author with the progression of the story.
Arianna was a good heroine. She has been sheltered by her father and wasn’t really prepared for university. She dealt really well with everything that happened to her, specially because she was really naive and unexperienced. She demonstrated inner strength and had a great evolution in the story.
Nicco was the personification of book boyfriend. He was very young, but very mature and sweet for the harsh life he has had. He lived daily with his duality of wanting to be someone else, but having to be an “evil” version of whom he would like to become. He was so complex and multifaceted. I completely fell in love with him.
Secondary characters They were all so complex and amazing. I can’t wait to read about all of them.
Villain/antagonists … There were one defined villain and a couple antagonist with promise to become big villains in the second book. It was hard to define who will become the biggest villain of them all. We cannot forget this is a world filled with antiheroes that sometimes maybe confused with antagonists.
Even though they were all complex, they were also easy to love, connect and understand!!!
Cover: art 4/5, title 5/5, color-font 5/5, buy 5/5 I’m obsessed with book covers. I love to find snippets of the stories within the art. I didn’t love the art, but I loved the title, subtitle and colors used here. The art was ok, but the final product was good enough to entice me. I’m not sure, but I would probably buy this book by its cover without needing to read the blurb!!!
Freshness: 4.5/5 This felt original. The new look of a mafia family from the younger generation added with a few unexpected twists made this book UNIQUE. As fresh as spearmint tea!!!
Plot: believable 5/5, conflict 5/5, dialogue 5/5, ending 3/5, enjoyment 5/5, opening 5/5, pace 5/5, setting 5/5, subplots 5/5, twists 5/5 Great opening with a cliffhanger at the end. Believable plot, with good dialogues and great pace. Fun setting, interesting subplots with unexpected twists. High level of enjoyment!
Can I just say that I wasn’t expecting the plot twists. Wow! I was shocked for a moment.
The plot was very well written and I became very emotional while reading. These characters were so young and they had already been through a lot. I felt their hope, happiness, pain, angst, it was an emotional rollercoaster.
Romance: believable 5/5, chemistry 5/5, description 5/5, development 3.5/5, steam 4/5 It was hot and sweet at the same time. It had smut and tender moments. Young love!!!
Writing Style: 5/5 My first time reading this author and I have already been blown away by her craft. Multifaceted characters in a creative and cohesive plot. Steamy romance permeated with the cuteness of youth. Writing of a wordsmith!
Because I try to be very analytical and I don’t really believe in perfection…
The way Arianna dealt with all the hurdles that were thrown her was, was a bit unrealistic. Too fast, too soon…
“It’s a beautiful night,” I said from the shadows.
“Nicco?” She glanced around, searching for me. When her eyes landed on me standing by the corner of the building, she stood up. “What do you want?”
“Ahh, Bambolina.” I let out a weary sigh. “That is a loaded question.”
“Humor me.” Lina took a step closer. The moonlight danced off the soft features of her face.
Jesus, she was so fucking beautiful.
“I want to kiss you.” I inched toward her, unable to resist the magnetic pull I felt whenever I was around her. “I want to finish what we started earlier. I want to feel you beneath me, hear you cry my name.”
I want to make you mine.
“You couldn’t get away from me fast enough earlier.” Her confused gaze cut me like a thousand tiny blades over my skin.
“It’s not what you think,” I said, moving closer still. Lina mirrored my movements until we were standing in front of each other.
Until she was close enough to touch.
“What’s happening to us, Nicco?” she whispered. “Why do I feel like this?”
“What do you feel like?” I brushed the hair off her neck. She had a thick hoodie pulled over her body, but I was still able to stroke the skin beneath her ear. Lina’s eyes drifted closed as she inhaled a shaky breath.
“I look for you when you’re not there. I feel you when you’re close. I can’t get you out of my head.” Her eyes opened again, fixing on mine. She smiled and it was like a bolt of lightning to my heart.
This innocent sweet girl was ruining me.
