I hate Drew Woods, and she hates me.

Even so, I’m not the cold jerk most make me out to be, and I have no problem moving the single mom and her baby into my home. I do, however, draw a line when it comes to acting on the way her loose lips make me feel.

Alive.

She’s too mouthy, too prying, and her curves are way too distracting.

I might have lost my way after a nearly fatal car accident, but I’m not stupid. Giving in to Drew would be a short-lived fix for this pain I’m saddled with, and I knead something permanent.

I’d be insane to think what we have could be anything other than temporary…right?

Adult Contemporary Romance, Romantic Comedy, Enemies-to-Lovers

First Person, dual-POV

This is book #2 of Slice series, but it can be read as standalone. I haven’t read the first book and I completely understood the story.

I hate her because I do like her… and she won’t let me have her.

by Winston

Addictiveness: 5/5  This was a one-sitting read for me. As soon as I started I knew I wouldn’t be able to let it go. The story was fun, sexy and kept at the edge of my seat.  As addictive as chocolate!!!

Character: hero 5/5, heroine 5/5, secondary characters 5/5, growth 5/5, real 5/5 Complex characters with several layers of difficulty, but we knew it would be worth knowing them.

Winston was perfectly imperfect. Life dealt him lemons and he had no idea how to make lemonade. Instead, he decided to only drink water. He was in pain and took the “easy” way. What he didn’t notice was that he had become a complete jerk because of his choices. He seemed selfish, rude, short-tempered. Inside, he was a softie with a huge heart, capable of a love bigger than life. He liked to take care of others. He was hot, sexy, broody, but was always getting strays and taking care of them. Helping them, giving them a new beginning. Winston was a multidimensional character that went through a huge personal growth throughout the book. Loved him, even when I felt like slapping him!

Drew was an amazing heroine. She created herself from nothing into such a beautiful human being. She accidentally got pregnant for a douchebag, but didn’t falter and kept going. She made the best of her situation, but it always felt not enough. She had a hard time asking for help, even though she had found the perfect system of friends/family for herself. She was very independent, used to take care of herself since she was a small child. She had this huge attraction to her best-friend’s brother, but her head wouldn’t let her like him. She thought he was a waster of life, since he got so much and was unable to keep it. She had a hard time to trust, to believe in happiness, but she even when her mind kept telling her to run, she kept on fighting.

I must go back and read Foster and Wren’s book. They were so perfect together. I can’t wait to see Sully got his match. He was AMAZING!!! Really, where can I get a nanny like him?

Villains.. antagonists… I guess the villain of the story was Winston fear. The antagonist was Drew stubbornness. They both were their worst enemy and what they really had to fight against in this story.

All characters were easy love, connect and understand. !!!

Cover: art 4.5/5, title 5/5, color-font 5/5, buy 5/5  I’m obsessed with book covers. I love to find snippets of the stories within the art. This cover is sexy and it fits the story. I would guess a pizzeria, cooks, by looking at it. I love the title and the font and colors used.  I would buy this book by its cover without needing to read the blurb!

Freshness: 4/5 I’ve liked. To make contemporary romance creative is really difficult, specially an enemies-to-lovers story. This one felt unique! The conflicts and twists gave this story a fresh atmosphere.  As fresh as vanilla ice cream during a summer day!

Plot: believable 5/5, conflict 5/5, dialogue 5/5, ending 5/5, enjoyment 5/5, opening 5/5, pace 5/5, setting 5/5, subplots 5/5, twists 5/5  Exciting opening for an amazing ending. A very believable plot, with great subplots and a unexpected twist. Great dialogues in a fun, fast-paced plot. Great setting and highly enjoyable until the end. Highest level of enjoyment!

Romance: believable 5/5, chemistry 5/5, description 5/5, development 5/5, steam 5/5  This was a slow burn romance that grew in a perfect pace. This was such an amazing love story. Winston was so patient and considerate with Drew’s feelings. At the same time they were so explosive together. There was always tension in the air with both of them in the same space. The smut here was unbelievable. So many well written sexy scenes. It never felt excessive, always pertinent to the storyPassionate love!

Writing Style: 4.5/5  The plot was fun, refreshing and interesting. The characters are stars here, because they were all easy to love. The romance intense and sweet at the same time. The dialogues and descriptions of the scenes were fun and hot. The writing was clean with no major loopholes.  Crafty writing!!!

I have no idea!!!! This was so wonderful, not even me, that loves to pick on every tiny detail, can find something.

I haven’t read the first book of the series and it wasn’t needed to understand this story. I will go back and read it only because I love the characters and their friendship and would love to see more of them all together.

This book was so unexpected for me. I wasn’t expecting that much intensity and emotional roller-coaster. Winston was such a deep character with so many layers to him and he was so well written. I do like a bad boy, but not usually a complete jerk. But Winston was always so capable of learning from his mistakes that it was impossible to hold it against him.

Really, so many young men that were good with babies, this book is dreamy!!!

This was a romance worth reading!!!

About Teagan Hunter

I’m a Missouri-raised gal, but currently live in North Carolina with my US Marine husband and 9-year-old dog. I spend my days begging him for a cat, and I survive off coffee, pizza, and sarcasm. When I’m not writing, you can find me binge-watching various TV shows, especially Supernatural and One Tree Hill. I like cold weather, buy more paperbacks than I’ll ever read, and I never say no to brownies.

Writing is my passion, and this is just the beginning of my journey.
