Peter Parker Penn.
Unlike the superhero his mother named him after, Parker is no good guy.
In fact, if there's a picture in the dictionary under anti-hero, it's his.
Parker's spent his life trying to get back on the right side of the tracks, but each step he takes forward, he takes two more steps back.
To save one, he hurts others. To make this good, he turns that bad.
For appearances' sake, he plays the part. He does what people expect him to do-mostly. And at the end of each day, he goes back to his lonely apartment and wishes he was a different person. One who could fix the things he's broken.
Then Kayla Nash forces her way into his life, and the world as he knows it is irrevocably changed.
Everything he thinks he has right is wrong. And everything he thinks is wrong is oh, so right.
One thing leads to another, and suddenly he's growing a conscience, and trying to prove to her that he's as bad as everybody says he is.
Yet she won't listen.
She's convinced that she can save him.
Little does she know, Parker isn't worth saving, and never will be.

Book #2 of a new series that is a spin-off of another series. Yes, I still got the feeling that I will only see the complete picture after I go back and read the Freebird series.

***WARNING***

IF YOU LOOK AT THE END OF MY REVIEW, YOU WILL SEE THIS WOULD BE A FIVE STARS READ FOR ME, I’VE DECIDED TO TAKE-OFF HALF A STAR BECAUSE I FELT LIKE I WAS MISSING PART OF THE PAST. I MAY CHANGE THIS IN THE FUTURE AFTER READING THE SERIES IN ORDER AND MAYBE FEELING A BIT MORE COMFORTABLE WITH THE STORY.

  • Addictiveness: Above the charts addictive. This story hooked me from the first page and I had a hard time letting it go. Beyond addictive!
  • Character: hero 5/5, heroine 4.5/5, secondary characters 5/5, growth 5/5, real 5/5  They are amazing. They feel so real and believable.  Well, I love Spider Man, and I knew it would be impossible for me not to fall in love with a Peter Parker. Peter was incredible. He has suffered so much, he can’t see beyond. He truly believes he is bad, when he is not, and he doesn’t believe he deserves good things. Luck for us, Kayla, as Janie’s best friend, is as crazy and young and Janie.  She saw the good in Peter and she never gave up. She is special. Kayla and Janie together gave me many LOL moments. Kayla and Peter together gave me heat flashes and some crying moments also. Wow! Characters development here is fantastic!
  • Cover: art 4/5, title 5/5, subtitle 5/5, color-font 5/5, buy 5/5 I’m obsessed with book covers. I love to find snippets of the stories within the art. I love this art, I can see Pete, but at the same time I wish I could see more of the story here. I love the title. Really, is perfect! I would buy this book without reading the blurb, only by the duo, hot cover with catchy title.
  • Freshness: O.M.G!  Really this is FRESH! UNIQUE! ONE-OF-A-KIND! So many emotions, I cried a lot here, but I have also laughed a lot and felt like never knew what was going to happen.
  • Plot: believable 5/5, conflict 5/5, dialogue 5/5, ending 5/5, enjoyment 5/5, opening 5/5, pace 5/5, setting 5/5, subplots 5/5, twists 5/5  Great opening and wonderful ending.  Fantastic conflict and dialogues very well written. Fast-paced with enough suspense to enhance the story. A few unexpected twists here and there, that makes this story believable and enjoyable. An emotional roller-coaster.
  • Romance: believable 5/5, chemistry 5/5, description 5/5, development 5/5, steam 5/5 This is a love story. This is about stubborn heroine mending a broken man and showing him true love. This is not even about HEA, but about being happy in the moment. This is about love. Not only being able to love someone else, but most specially, about learning that to get there you must love yourself. Wow! Kayla is so young, but so wise. She is certain the only place she feels whole, due to her past is within Peter arms.  She gave Peter the world, and got as a prize a wonderful, swoon-worthy man. Peter, of course, was never strong enough to resist her. This hurts and cures! Beautiful romance with some amazing smut. I mean, buckle-up, because you will feel liking taking lots of cold-shower. Not really safe to be read in public!
  • Writing Style: WOW!!!! Fantastic characters, action-packed plot and loving romance. PERFECTION!!!

  • This is my fault, but until I have time to read the Freebird series, I will keep missing a few parts of the overall plot.

Yes, the first book of the Simple Man series was my first read by the author. So, it  could have been a one-hit wonder.

Well, it is not! Ms. Vale is a wordsmith. She has perfected the formula of the perfect plot. She adds the perfect amount of angst to laughing moments. I believed I have cried the same amount I have laughed-out-loud reading this. (Maybe I’ve cried a bit more, but I’m a crybaby.) I know, I’m back again in redundancy with all the PERFECT being thrown around. But really, there is no best adjective to explain the feeling that I got from this series.

34/35 STARS –  {Should be a 5 STARS, but I’m taking off .5 a STAR.}  (between 33.5 stars and 35 stars)

Addictiveness: 5 Character: 4.5  Cover: 5  Freshness: 5  Plot: 4.5  Romance: 5 Writing Style: 5

  • Action 5/5
  • Angst 3.5/5
  • Darkness 0/5
  • Humor 5/5
  • Romance 5/5
  • Suspense/Mystery 5/5
  • Would I recommend? I believe this should be a MUST read to anyone that enjoys romance with a bit of angst.
  • Would I re-read this book? YES!
  • Would I re-read this series? Sure.
  • Would I read more from the author? I will!!!

You MAY read this because you like the author; you SHOULD read this because you follow the series; you MUST read this because is a ONE-OF-A-KIND experience!!!
